Hawks Rally Past Quakers in Late Innings

WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. (Interstat) — The Monmouth Hawks scored four unanswered runs in the sixth and seventh innings to erase a deficit and defeat the Penn Quakers 5-3 on Wednesday evening at Monmouth Baseball Field.

Penn built a 3-1 lead with single runs in the fifth and sixth, but Monmouth tied it in the seventh on a wild pitch that scored Colin Richter. Sam Saucke then scored on Chris Walsh’s sacrifice fly for the go-ahead run. Nick Lovarco, who homered in the second, added a crucial RBI single later in the seventh.

Monmouth relievers Nick Tamburro and David Horvath combined for six scoreless innings. Penn’s bullpen, featuring Luke Pokrovsky and John Cerwinski, allowed just one hit over the final 4 2/3 innings but was charged with two decisive runs. Monmouth improved to 20-14. Penn fell to 13-16.
