Connecticut at Boston College
NEWTON, Mass. (Interstat) — A surging Boston College squad will look to continue its strong season when it hosts a streaky Connecticut team in a nonconference afternoon matchup Wednesday at Eddie Pellagrini Diamond at John Shea Field.
The Eagles (26-12), winners of seven of their last 10, are coming off a series victory over Virginia Tech. Boston College took the finale 6-2 on Sunday behind a strong start from right-hander Tyler Mudd, who allowed two earned runs over seven innings. Mudd (4-2, 3.41 ERA) is a key player to watch and is expected to pitch again Wednesday. He has been effective lately, including a five-inning, two-hit shutout performance against Virginia on March 28.
The Huskies (20-17) arrive after a dominant 13-0 road win at Butler on Sunday. Connecticut’s Oliver Pudvar was brilliant in that victory, throwing seven no-hit innings with seven strikeouts. The right-hander, who has oscillated between starts and relief recently, is a player to watch for the Huskies. Connecticut has shown power, with first baseman Jackson Marshall hitting a home run and driving in four runs in Sunday’s win.
The teams last met on March 10, with Boston College winning a high-scoring affair 26-19 in Storrs. Wednesday’s game is projected to be another close offensive contest. Interstat’s game simulator predicts a 7-6 victory for Connecticut.
First pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m. EDT under cloudy skies with a temperature near 76 degrees. Following this game, Boston College opens an Atlantic Coast Conference series at home against Duke on Friday. Connecticut begins a Big East series at home against Saint John’s on Friday.
