Jacksonville at Florida Gulf Coast
ASUN Baseball Series Finale Set for Sunday in Fort Myers
FORT MYERS, Fla. (Interstat) — The Jacksonville Dolphins and Florida Gulf Coast Eagles will conclude their three-game ASUN Conference series Sunday at Swanson Stadium.
First pitch is scheduled for the afternoon under partly cloudy skies with a game-time temperature near 81 degrees.
The Dolphins (16-17, 3-8 ASUN) evened the series with a 6-4 victory Friday night. Derek Bermudez led Jacksonville, going 3 for 4 with three RBIs. Reliever Kyle Hopper earned the win with two scoreless innings, and Alex Walsh struck out four over four innings of work.
The Eagles (20-12, 6-5), who won Saturday’s contest 1-0, will look to secure the series win and improve their standing in the conference race. They hold a superior overall record but have dropped four of their last six games.
A key matchup will feature Jacksonville’s Walsh, a consistent starter, against an FGCU lineup that managed only two hits off him in relief Friday. In his last start on April 3, Walsh struck out eight over six innings in a win over Stetson.
For Florida Gulf Coast, two-way player Evan Dempsey is a focal point. At the plate, he is 3 for 4 in the series. On the mound, he was dominant in a starting role Friday, striking out nine over six scoreless innings while allowing just two hits, though he did not factor in the decision.
Interstat’s game simulator projects a 5-3 Jacksonville victory. However, the same service’s ELO rating system gives Florida Gulf Coast a 61.7% probability to win Sunday.
Following the game, Jacksonville will travel to face UCF on Tuesday. Florida Gulf Coast visits Florida Atlantic on Tuesday before a conference series at Queens University of Charlotte next weekend.
