Presbyterian at Charleston Southern

NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. (Interstat) — In a wild Big South Conference slugfest defined by a historic individual performance and a massive comeback, Charleston Southern outlasted Presbyterian 15-11 on Saturday evening at Buccaneer Ballpark.

The game, which began in the afternoon and concluded under the lights, saw the Buccaneers overcome an early eight-run deficit, fueled by a relentless offensive attack that produced 17 hits. The victory improved Charleston Southern to 20-10 overall, while Presbyterian fell to 6-26.

Presbyterian third baseman Matthew Rollison delivered one of the most remarkable performances of the college baseball season, single-handedly keeping the Blue Hose in the game. Rollison went 3 for 5 with three home runs and seven RBIs. His two-run homer in the first inning and a three-run shot in the third, the latter coming after a fielding error extended the inning, staked Presbyterian to an 8-0 lead. He later added a two-run homer in the eighth inning to briefly tie the game.

Despite Rollison’s heroics, Charleston Southern methodically chipped away at the large early gap. Alex Marot hit a solo homer in the second inning, and Blake Edgmon drove in a run with a single later in the frame. A sacrifice fly by Marot in the third made it 8-3.

The Buccaneers then erupted for a seven-run sixth inning to seize control, turning an 8-5 deficit into a 12-8 lead. The inning featured a two-run homer by Tyler Wright, a two-run double by Lucas Pringle and an RBI single by Chandler Martinez. The rally showcased the depth of the Charleston Southern lineup, which saw six players record multiple RBIs. Edgmon was perfect at the plate, going 3 for 3 with a walk, an RBI, and three runs scored.

Rollison’s third homer, a two-run blast in the top of the eighth, knotted the score at 11-11, but Charleston Southern responded immediately and decisively in the bottom half. The Buccaneers sent 10 men to the plate, scoring four runs on four hits, two walks and an error. Kain Collins delivered the critical blow, a two-run double down the right-field line that gave Charleston Southern a lead it would not relinquish.

Presbyterian starter Christian Charalambous struggled, allowing five earned runs on four hits and four walks over 4 1/3 innings. The Blue Hose bullpen could not contain the Buccaneers’ surge. For Charleston Southern, relievers Zach Stichweh and Drew Dawson provided crucial scoreless innings late. Stichweh struck out two in the eighth to earn the win, and Dawson recorded the final out in the ninth with the bases loaded to secure the save.

The most important part of the game was Charleston Southern’s seven-run sixth inning. It represented the decisive turning point, transforming a back-and-forth contest into a lead the Buccaneers would ultimately protect. The inning demonstrated their offensive firepower and resilience, overcoming not only the day’s deficit but also the singular dominance of Rollison. It shifted the momentum permanently in favor of the home team, setting the stage for their eventual series-clinching victory.

The outcome defied the pregame projection from Interstat, which had given Charleston Southern a 69.7% chance to win but predicted a low-scoring 5-2 final.
