Hamill, Carlson Lead Cornell Past Dartmouth in Ivy League Doubleheader Opener
ITHACA, N.Y. (Interstat) — Owen Carlson drove in three runs and starter Ethan Hamill delivered a strong six-inning outing as the Cornell Big Red defeated the Dartmouth Big Green 4-2 on Saturday at Hoy Field in the opener of an Ivy League doubleheader.
Hamill rebounded from a rough outing earlier in the week, allowing two runs on four hits with four strikeouts to earn the win. John Hegarty earned a three-inning save with four strikeouts.
Cornell took a 1-0 lead in the first on Carlson’s RBI single. Dartmouth’s Henry Murray hit a two-run homer in the sixth for a brief lead, but Cornell tied it in the bottom half on Jake Hower’s single. Carlson’s go-ahead RBI single in the seventh made it 3-2, and another run scored on a wild pitch.
Dartmouth starter Nate Isler took the loss, allowing four runs over 6 1/3 innings. Cornell improved to 6-16, while Dartmouth fell to 4-16.
