Dartmouth at Cornell
ITHACA, N.Y. (Interstat) — Two teams seeking an Ivy League foothold will meet under rainy skies Saturday when Dartmouth visits Cornell for a doubleheader opener at Hoy Field.
The Big Green (4-14) and Big Red (4-16) have identical struggles in non-conference play, setting the stage for a pivotal league matchup to open April. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m. in forecasted 67-degree temperatures and rain.
Dartmouth aims to rebound from a 3-4 loss at Massachusetts-Lowell on Tuesday, a game where its bullpen shined. Aidan Plummer, a player to watch for the Big Green, threw three hitless, scoreless innings of relief in that contest. Over his last three appearances, the right-hander has allowed just one earned run in 5 1/3 innings.
Cornell also looks to bounce back from a midweek defeat, a 12-6 loss at Army on Tuesday. The bright spot was shortstop Kevin Hager, who went 3 for 4 with two home runs and two RBIs. Hager has been a consistent offensive threat for the Big Red, recording a hit in eight of his last ten games.
Both teams have shown recent flashes. Dartmouth took two of three from Columbia last weekend, including a shutout victory. Cornell secured a win over Princeton on March 22 and split a doubleheader with Harvard on March 29.
According to Interstat’s game simulator, the projected final score is Cornell 3, Dartmouth 1.
The game is the first of a two-game weekend series, with the second contest set for Sunday afternoon.
