Toledo at Ohio State
TOLEDO, Ohio (Interstat) — The Toledo Rockets and Ohio State Buckeyes, both seeking to climb above .500, meet in a nonconference midweek matchup Tuesday at Bill Davis Stadium.
First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m. EDT under cloudy skies with a game-time temperature near 72 degrees.
The Buckeyes (13-13) enter with momentum from a road series sweep at Minnesota, capped by a 12-9 victory Sunday. Ohio State’s offense has been potent, averaging over eight runs per game during its current four-game winning streak.
A key catalyst has been designated hitter Mason Eckelman. Over his last three games, all Buckeye wins, Eckelman is 6 for 12 with two home runs and 10 RBIs. He drove in six runs in Sunday’s series finale.
The Rockets (12-14) look to rebound after dropping two of three at Akron, including a 7-4 loss Sunday. Toledo’s bullpen will be tested, with reliever Nate Langbehn emerging as a reliable arm. Over his last seven appearances spanning 15 2/3 innings, Langbehn has allowed just four earned runs while striking out 21 batters. In Sunday’s loss, he struck out seven over 3 2/3 scoreless innings of relief.
Ohio State holds a significant historical edge, leading the all-time series 40-9-1. The teams last met in 2023, a 7-2 Buckeye victory in Columbus.
According to Interstat’s game simulator, Ohio State is projected to win 7-4.
Following this game, Toledo begins a three-game home series against Eastern Michigan on Thursday. Ohio State opens Big Ten Conference play at home Friday against Maryland.
