Ohio State at Wright State

Preview: Ohio State Buckeyes at Wright State Raiders

DAYTON, Ohio (Interstat) — A pair of in-state programs looking to build momentum will meet Tuesday when the Ohio State Buckeyes visit the Wright State Raiders at Woerner Field.

First pitch is scheduled for the evening, with cloudy skies and temperatures near 43 degrees forecast.

Ohio State (10-12) enters riding a four-game winning streak, including a three-game weekend sweep of Butler capped by a 14-4 victory Sunday. The Buckeyes’ offense erupted for 38 runs in that series.

A key catalyst has been left fielder Alex Bemis. Over his last 10 games, Bemis is batting .367 (11-for-30) with four home runs and 17 RBIs. He drove in six runs on two homers in Sunday’s win.

Wright State (8-12) also secured a series win over the weekend, taking two of three from Milwaukee. The Raiders won 6-5 on Sunday behind a strong start from right-hander Chet Lax, who allowed two earned runs over 6 1/3 innings.

Lax has been a bright spot for the Raiders’ rotation. In his last start on March 8, he threw seven no-hit innings with four strikeouts in a 6-0 road win over then-Tennessee. For the season, he owns a 1.69 ERA over 21 1/3 innings with 18 strikeouts.

The Buckeyes have shown recent potency at the plate, but faced struggles earlier in the month during a 1-5 stretch that included series losses to UCLA and Washington.

Wright State’s season has been marked by inconsistency, mixing impressive wins like the shutout at Tennessee with series losses to Southeast Missouri State.

According to Interstat’s game simulator, this midweek contest projects to be close, with a predicted final score of Ohio State 5, Wright State 4.

Following this game, Ohio State begins a four-game home series with Minnesota on Wednesday. Wright State opens Horizon League play at home against Oakland on Friday.
