Jacksonville at South Florida

TAMPA, Fla. (Interstat) — The South Florida Bulls, ranked among the nation’s elite, showcased their explosive offense in a commanding 13-3 victory over the Jacksonville Dolphins on Tuesday night at USF Baseball Stadium.

The game’s pivotal shift occurred in the bottom of the fourth inning, transforming a competitive contest into a rout. Entering the frame trailing 3-1, the Bulls sent 11 men to the plate, capitalizing on timely hitting, opportunistic baserunning and Jacksonville miscues to seize control with a five-run outburst.

The inning began with a single from left fielder Jake Kulikowski, the game’s top star. After a walk and a pitching change, pinch-hitter Marcus Rose delivered an RBI single to cut the deficit to one. A bunt single by Luke Trippel, compounded by a Dolphins throwing error, allowed the tying run to score. A sacrifice fly by Jevin Relaford gave South Florida its first lead, and the Bulls added two more runs on a passed ball and aggressive base stealing, stretching the advantage to 5-3.

That inning broke the game open and ignited a relentless South Florida attack that scored in four consecutive frames. The Bulls added three more in the fifth, one in the sixth on a Kulikowski solo home run, and four in the seventh to put the game out of reach.

Kulikowski led the Bulls’ 12-hit attack, going 3 for 4 with a home run, three RBIs and three runs scored. His performance highlighted a deep lineup where contributions came from throughout the order. Pinch-hitter and eventual first baseman Juan Correa went 2 for 2 with an RBI and two runs, while Jonathan Lutz drove in two runs.

Jacksonville, which fell to 10-11 overall, struck early with solo home runs from Roger Vergara in the first inning, Logan Baratta in the fourth and Conner Spelman in the sixth. Those three swings accounted for all of the Dolphins’ runs and three of their four total hits in the game.

South Florida starter Will Allen earned the win, working 3 2/3 innings and allowing two earned runs on three hits while striking out five. Reliever Kaden Smith provided 2 1/3 innings of solid relief, surrendering one run on one hit. Jacksonville starter Benjamin Baker-Livingston took the loss after being charged with one earned run over two innings.

The victory improved South Florida’s record to 18-3, continuing its best start in program history. The Bulls have now won 12 of their last 13 games. The loss was the fourth in five games for Jacksonville.

The game defied the pregame projection from Interstat, which had simulated a 7-1 South Florida victory and gave the Bulls a 60.1% probability to win. The actual outcome was even more lopsided, underscoring the potency of the Bulls’ lineup when ignited.

South Florida next hosts Rice in a three-game series beginning Friday. Jacksonville travels to face Queens University of Charlotte for a three-game set starting the same day.
