Texas Christian at Arizona State
PHOENIX (Interstat) — A pivotal Big 12 series concludes Sunday evening when the Texas Christian Horned Frogs visit the Arizona State Sun Devils at Phoenix Municipal Stadium.
First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m. local time under cloudy skies with a game-time temperature near 89 degrees.
The Horned Frogs (11-6) evened the series with a 5-4 victory Friday afternoon, powered by a strong start from Mason Brassfield and a home run from catcher Brady Dallimore. TCU seeks its second straight series win after taking two of three from Tulane last weekend.
Arizona State (12-5) looks to salvage a series split after Friday’s narrow loss. The Sun Devils’ offense, which erupted for 29 runs against Loyola Marymount on March 8, was stifled by Brassfield’s six no-hit innings.
Players to Watch
All eyes will be on a potential marquee pitching rematch. TCU’s Mason Brassfield is coming off a dominant performance against these same Sun Devils on Friday, throwing six no-hit innings with eight strikeouts. Over his last three starts, he has 23 strikeouts in 15 innings.
Arizona State will counter with right-hander Cole Carlon, who was also sharp in Friday’s contest. Carlon allowed just two hits and one earned run while striking out 11 Horned Frogs over five innings. He has 37 strikeouts in his last 21 innings pitched.
Series Context
The teams have split the first two games of this four-game set. Arizona State won 5-0 on Saturday, setting up Sunday’s rubber match. Interstat’s game simulator projects a high-scoring affair, predicting an 8-7 victory for Texas Christian.
