Texas-San Antonio at Texas Tech
Preview: UTSA Roadrunners at No. -- Texas Tech Red Raiders
LUBBOCK, Texas (Interstat) — Two of the state’s hottest teams will meet Tuesday when the Texas-San Antonio Roadrunners visit the Texas Tech Red Raiders at Dan Law Field at Rip Griffin Park.
First pitch is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. under partly cloudy skies with a game-time temperature near 83 degrees.
UTSA (13-2) brings one of the nation’s best early-season records to Lubbock, having won 11 of its last 12 games. The Roadrunners’ only two losses came on the road at Texas State and in a 5-4 defeat at New Mexico State on Sunday. In that game, first baseman Caden Miller went 3 for 4 with a home run and two RBIs.
Miller, a key offensive catalyst, is batting .429 (9 for 21) with three homers and 11 RBIs over his last seven games.
Texas Tech (10-4) has found its offensive stride, sweeping a three-game series from Penn State over the weekend by a combined score of 50-17. The Red Raiders have scored 10 or more runs in six of their last eight games.
Third baseman Connor Shouse leads the charge, coming off a 4-for-5, three-RBI performance in Sunday’s 14-4 win. He is 7 for 12 with seven RBIs in his last three games.
The Red Raiders’ power will be tested by a UTSA pitching staff that posted a 13-0 shutout at New Mexico State on Saturday. Relievers Jake Qualia and Kendall Dove combined for 5 2/3 scoreless innings in Sunday’s narrow loss.
Texas Tech has dominated recent non-conference play at home, but faces a Roadrunners squad with notable road wins at Baylor and Coastal Carolina already this season.
According to Interstat’s game simulator, this high-scoring trend is expected to continue with a projected final score of UTSA 8, Texas Tech 7.
The two teams will meet again Wednesday in Lubbock to conclude the brief midweek series.
