Monmouth at Towson

Preview: Monmouth Hawks at Towson Tigers

TOWSON, Md. (Interstat) — The Towson Tigers will look to avoid a series sweep when they host the Monmouth Hawks in the finale of a three-game Colonial Athletic Association baseball series Sunday afternoon at John B. Schuerholz Baseball Complex.

First pitch is scheduled for 5 p.m. under cloudy skies with a temperature near 53 degrees.

Monmouth (4-7, 2-0 CAA) has dominated the early series, winning 12-5 on Friday and 4-1 on Saturday. The Hawks will send right-hander Alec Couture to the mound, hoping he can replicate his stellar performance from Saturday. Couture earned the win with five shutout innings, allowing just one hit and striking out five.

For the season, Couture is 1-2 with a 5.40 ERA, but his latest outing was his best.

Towson (5-6, 0-2) will counter with right-hander Liam Diehl, who took the loss in Saturday’s contest. Diehl allowed two earned runs on four hits over five innings, striking out five. He seeks more consistent results after a rough start to the season, carrying an 0-3 record and a 6.30 ERA into the matchup.

The Tigers’ offense, which produced 16 runs in a win over Canisius last Sunday, has been held to six total runs in the first two games of this series. They will need to solve Monmouth’s pitching to salvage the final game.

According to Interstat’s game simulator, the projected final score is Towson 5, Monmouth 4.

Following Sunday’s game, Monmouth travels to face Fairleigh Dickinson on Wednesday. Towson hits the road for a midweek game at George Washington on Wednesday before a CAA series at Northeastern next weekend.
