Wright State at Tennessee

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (Interstat) — The Tennessee Volunteers, riding high after a dominant midweek win, will look to continue their strong start when they host the Wright State Raiders in the second game of a weekend series Saturday at Lindsey Nelson Stadium.

First pitch is scheduled for 4 p.m. EDT under cloudy skies with a game-time temperature of 78 degrees.

Tennessee (10-3) opened the series with a shutout victory Friday night. The Volunteers’ offense has been potent, averaging over seven runs per game during their current four-game winning streak. A player to watch for the Vols is two-way talent Taylor Tracey, who struck out seven over three perfect relief innings in Wednesday’s 11-2 rout of Oakland. On the season, Tracey has not allowed a run in 5 1/3 innings pitched out of the bullpen.

Wright State (4-6) aims to rebound after being held scoreless in the series opener. The Raiders have shown resilience, winning a road series at Campbell last weekend. Their key performer is starting pitcher Warren Hartzell, who is coming off a spectacular outing. Last Sunday in a 3-1 win at Campbell, Hartzell fired four hitless innings with seven strikeouts. However, control was an issue in his prior start at Charlotte, where he walked four and allowed four earned runs in four innings.

The Raiders’ season has been marked by inconsistency, with the team yet to win consecutive games. Their offense will be challenged by a deep Tennessee pitching staff that has compiled a 3.12 team ERA.

According to Interstat, the Volunteers are heavy favorites with an 85.1% probability to win. Their game simulator projects a final score of Tennessee 7, Wright State 4.

Following Saturday’s contest, the series concludes Sunday afternoon. Tennessee will then prepare for a midweek tilt against Tennessee Tech before opening Southeastern Conference play at Georgia next weekend. Wright State will finish its weekend in Knoxville before a Tuesday trip to Indiana and a subsequent homestand against Southeast Missouri State.
