UNC Wilmington at Jacksonville

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (Interstat) — The Jacksonville Dolphins look to continue their strong start and secure a series win when they host the UNC Wilmington Seahawks in an afternoon contest Saturday at John Sessions Stadium.

First pitch is scheduled for the evening, with a forecast of 81 degrees and rain.

Jacksonville (9-4) took the opening game of the series Friday, shutting out UNC Wilmington. The Dolphins have won seven of their last nine.

The Seahawks (6-5), meanwhile, aim to rebound from back-to-back losses, including Wednesday’s 5-3 defeat to East Carolina. A key to their hopes will be reliever Jackson Caldwell, who has been dominant. Over his last four appearances spanning 7 innings, Caldwell has not allowed a hit or an earned run while striking out nine.

For Jacksonville, right-hander Gavin Dicks is a player to watch. He logged 4 2/3 innings of hitless relief with six strikeouts in Tuesday’s narrow 7-6 loss at Florida State, though he was charged with five earned runs. In his previous outing, a start against Long Island on Feb. 21, he earned a win after allowing three runs over six innings.

According to Interstat’s game simulator, the projected final score is Jacksonville 6, UNC Wilmington 5.

The teams conclude their three-game series Sunday afternoon.
