Southern at South Florida

TAMPA, Fla. (Interstat) — The South Florida Bulls unleashed a relentless offensive attack, scoring in each of the first six innings, to rout the Southern Jaguars 15-1 in the first game of a doubleheader on Saturday at USF Baseball Stadium.

The victory improved the Bulls’ record to 13-3, while the Jaguars fell to 3-11.

South Florida set the tone early, answering Southern’s lone run in the top of the third inning with an immediate and sustained barrage. After the Jaguars scratched across a run on a sacrifice fly by K. White Jr. to tie the game 1-1 in the third, the Bulls’ offense erupted.

The most important sequence of the game came in the bottom of the third inning, which broke the contest open. Facing new pitcher Mylik Dismute, who had just relieved starter Quincy Thornton, the Bulls sent nine men to the plate and scored four runs. Lance Trippel drove in a run with a double, Bradke Lohry added an RBI single and Ryan Pruitt capped the inning with a sacrifice fly to extend the lead to 7-1.

South Florida continued to apply pressure, adding two more runs in the fourth inning on an RBI single by E. Thomas and another sacrifice fly from Lohry. The Bulls then put the game completely out of reach with a five-run fifth inning, capitalizing on a Southern error to score four unearned runs. Jacob Green delivered the big blow, a two-run single up the middle that pushed the advantage to 14-1.

The offensive support was more than enough for Bulls starter Michael Senay, who earned the win with a strong five-inning outing. Senay allowed one earned run on three hits while striking out five. He was effectively wild, walking three, but consistently worked out of minimal trouble. Jonah Sarabia provided two perfect innings of relief to close out the seven-inning contest.

Southern’s pitching staff struggled with command throughout the day, issuing 10 walks and hitting two batters. The Jaguars’ defense also committed two errors, leading to four unearned runs. Thornton took the loss for Southern, charged with four earned runs in two-plus innings of work. Relievers Stephen Tolbert and Jayden Lawrence each provided scoreless outings in the later innings.

Offensively, the Bulls amassed 11 hits and showcased disciplined situational hitting, recording four sacrifice flies. Green led the way with two hits and four RBIs. Lohry went 2-for-2 with three RBIs, and Matt Rose was 3-for-4 with two runs scored. The Jaguars managed only three hits total, with D. Radcliffe, B. Bikar Jr. and Lucky Jaylo collecting one each.

The game was the second of a three-game weekend series, following South Florida’s 6-1 victory on Friday. The Bulls entered as heavy favorites, with Interstat’s ELO system giving them an 84.8 percent probability to win, and they far outperformed a projected final score of 7-3.

South Florida’s season continues its hot start, while Southern searches for answers after its fifth consecutive loss. The teams were scheduled to conclude the doubleheader later Saturday.
