Mannelly Powers Wofford Past Belmont in High-Scoring Opener
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (Interstat) — Andrew Mannelly homered and drove in four runs Friday, leading the Wofford Terriers to an 11-8 victory over the Belmont Bruins at Ken Dugan Field at Stephen Lee Marsh Stadium.
Wofford built an early 11-4 lead, capitalizing on two sacrifice flies and three sacrifice hits. Belmont rallied with four runs in the seventh inning, highlighted by a two-run double from Brody Langlotz, but could not complete the comeback. Mannelly’s solo homer in the eighth provided key insurance.
Kenny Michaels earned the win despite allowing five earned runs over five innings for Wofford. Champ Davis pitched four innings of relief. Jake Maddox and Cavan McMeans each had three hits and two RBIs for Belmont.
Wofford improved to 9-4. Belmont fell to 5-9. The teams continue their series Saturday.
