WOFFORD SEEKS ROAD WIN AGAINST BELMONT IN NASHVILLE
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (Interstat) — The Wofford Terriers, riding a strong start to the season, visit the Belmont Bruins for a three-game series opener Friday at Ken Dugan Field at Stephen Lee Marsh Stadium.
First pitch is scheduled for Friday afternoon under cloudy skies with a game-time temperature near 76 degrees.
Wofford (8-4) enters with a winning record, though coming off a narrow 8-7 loss at UNC Asheville on Tuesday. The Terriers’ offense has shown potency, scoring 10 or more runs in four games this season. Third baseman Cade Collins provided a bright spot in the recent loss, going 2-for-5 with a home run.
Belmont (5-8) looks to build momentum after an 8-7 road win at Middle Tennessee on Wednesday. The Bruins’ bullpen was stellar in that victory, combining for 6 1/3 scoreless innings of relief.
A key matchup will feature pitchers coming off contrasting recent outings. Wofford’s Cole Draper, a player to watch, allowed two earned runs over three innings against UNC Asheville after a tough appearance against Valparaiso on Feb. 20. For Belmont, reliever Zane Brown has been excellent, tossing seven combined scoreless innings with seven strikeouts over his last two appearances against Middle Tennessee and Georgia State.
Interstat’s game simulator projects a 7-3 win for Wofford, with its ELO rating system giving the Terriers a 64.7% probability of victory.
This series begins a crucial 10-game homestand for Belmont. Wofford continues its road swing before returning to Spartanburg next week.
