Missouri Rides Serna’s Grand Slam to Victory Over Arkansas-Pine Bluff
COLUMBIA, Mo. (Interstat) — Mateo Serna’s sixth-inning grand slam powered the Missouri Tigers to a 5-1 win over the Arkansas-Pine Bluff Golden Lions on Wednesday evening at Taylor Stadium.
The game was a pitchers’ duel until the sixth. Arkansas-Pine Bluff (4-6) broke a scoreless tie in the top half when Jose Vasquez scored on a wild pitch. Missouri (7-2) answered immediately in the bottom half against reliever Jalen Porter. Serna, the designated hitter, launched his second homer of the season with the bases loaded for four RBIs.
Serna added a sacrifice fly in the eighth. Missouri starter Luke Sullivan earned the win, allowing one hit and striking out five over 5 1/3 scoreless innings. Golden Lions starter Jordan Medellin took a hard-luck loss, yielding one unearned run over 5 1/3 no-hit frames before the bullpen faltered.
