Alcorn State at Southeastern Louisiana
HAMMOND, La. (Interstat) — The Southeastern Louisiana Lions, riding a strong season, will look to get back on track when they host the struggling Alcorn State Braves in a non-conference baseball matchup Wednesday at Pat Kenelly Diamond at Alumni Field.
First pitch is set for a clear, 71-degree evening.
The Lions (23-17) enter having dropped three of their last four, including a 10-1 loss at Texas-Rio Grande Valley on Saturday. Their bullpen will feature a key arm in Larson Fabre, who was a bright spot in that defeat. The reliever fired 2 1/3 perfect innings with four strikeouts. Over his last four appearances, Fabre has allowed just one earned run in 5 1/3 innings.
They face an Alcorn State team mired in a difficult season, with a record of 3-32. The Braves are on a five-game skid, most recently falling 14-5 to Southern on Sunday. During that loss, shortstop Asher Friedman provided offensive punch, going 3 for 4 with two RBIs.
Friedman has been a consistent performer for the Braves. In his last 10 games, he has recorded multiple hits three times and driven in runs in four contests, including a 2-for-3, one-RBI effort in a 13-10 loss to Mississippi Valley State on April 2.
The Braves’ pitching staff has faced repeated challenges, allowing 10 or more runs in eight of their last ten games.
According to Interstat’s game simulator, the Lions are projected to win with a final score of 5-1.
Following this midweek contest, Southeastern Louisiana opens a Southland Conference series at home against Houston Christian on Friday. Alcorn State begins a Southwestern Athletic Conference series at home against Grambling on Friday.
