Elon Looks to Salvage Series Finale at Red-Hot Campbell

LILLINGTON, N.C. (Interstat) — The Campbell Fightin’ Camels will aim for a series victory when they host the Elon Phoenix in the rubber match of their Colonial Athletic Association set on Sunday afternoon at Jim Perry Stadium.

First pitch is scheduled for 4 p.m. under clear skies with a game-time temperature of 88 degrees.

Campbell (25-13, 8-3 CAA) evened the series with a commanding 7-1 win Saturday afternoon behind a dominant pitching performance. The Fightin’ Camels have won 10 of their last 12 games and sit near the top of the conference standings.

Elon (15-23, 4-7) saw a two-game win streak snapped in Saturday’s loss and will look to right-hander Tommy Mitchell to secure a road series win. Mitchell (1-4, 4.85 ERA) is coming off a strong outing in defeat against these same Camels on Friday, allowing two earned runs over six innings with four strikeouts.

He will face a formidable challenge in Campbell right-hander David Rossow (6-1, 2.01 ERA), who is in elite form. Rossow dominated the Phoenix on Saturday, striking out 12 over seven innings while allowing just one run on four hits. In his last four starts, he has surrendered only four earned runs in 28 innings while racking up 39 strikeouts.

The teams have split the first two games of the series, with Elon winning 10-6 on Friday before Campbell’s rebuttal Saturday.

Interstat’s game simulator projects a 6-4 Campbell victory, with its ELO rating system giving the Fightin’ Camels a 74.4% probability to win.

After the series concludes, Campbell travels to face Charlotte on Tuesday. Elon’s next contest is at Winthrop on Tuesday.
