Presbyterian at Wofford

SPARTANBURG, S.C. (Interstat) — Ben Timblin launched two home runs and drove in three as the Wofford Terriers overpowered the Presbyterian Blue Hose 11-2 in nonconference baseball action Tuesday night at Cleveland S. Harley Baseball Park.

The Terriers, winners of eight of their last nine, improved to 26-11 overall. The Blue Hose fell to 8-29.

The most important part of the game came swiftly, as Wofford erased an early two-run deficit with a decisive first-inning outburst. After Presbyterian scratched across two runs in the top of the first on a series of situational plays, Wofford answered immediately in the bottom half. Following a double and a single, Timblin stepped in and crushed a two-run homer to center field off Presbyterian starter Brody Linker, tying the game. The Terriers were not done, adding three more hits in the frame, including an RBI single by Jack Herndon, to take a 3-2 lead they would not relinquish.

Timblin, the Terriers’ right fielder, stayed hot, adding a solo shot to left field in the third inning. He finished 2 for 3 and has now homered in four consecutive games, driving in 15 runs over that torrid stretch.

Wofford starter Sheldon Egger earned the win, working five innings and allowing one earned run on four hits while striking out five. The Terrier bullpen, featuring Corben Childers and Davis Rivers, combined for four perfect innings of relief to close out the game.

Presbyterian’s lone offensive highlights were a solo home run by Aidan Dewberry in the fourth inning and a run scored on a passed ball in the sixth. The Blue Hose managed just six hits total.

Wofford broke the game open with a three-run sixth inning, highlighted by a two-run homer from catcher Lucas Manning and a solo blast from shortstop Brady Gold. Gold was a force throughout, going 3 for 4 with a homer, a double and three RBIs. Niko Brini also homered for the Terriers, part of a 15-hit team attack.

The Terriers added three more runs in the seventh, with Gold delivering a two-run single and another run scoring on a balk.

Presbyterian reliever Cole Morgan provided a bright spot with 1 1/3 hitless innings of work, but the Blue Hose used six pitchers who collectively struggled to contain the Wofford lineup.

The victory extended Wofford’s dominance in the recent series, having also defeated Presbyterian 9-2 last month. The Terriers’ offensive output surpassed the projection of Interstat’s game simulator, which had forecast a 7-3 Wofford win.

Wofford travels to face UNC Asheville to open a three-game series Friday. Presbyterian begins a Big South Conference series at Longwood on Friday.
