Presbyterian at Wofford

Preview: Wofford Set to Host Presbyterian in Midweek Clash

SPARTANBURG, S.C. (Interstat) — The Wofford Terriers, riding high with one of the nation’s top mid-major records, will host the struggling Presbyterian Blue Hose in a non-conference baseball game Tuesday at Cleveland S. Harley Baseball Park.

First pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m. under cloudy skies with a game-time temperature near 77 degrees.

The Terriers (25-11) enter as heavy favorites against a Presbyterian squad that sits at 8-28. Wofford has won seven of its last 10 games, including taking two of three from The Citadel over the weekend. The Blue Hose snapped a four-game skid with a 12-10 win over Winthrop on Sunday but have lost 10 of their last 13.

This is a rematch of a March 17 meeting in Clinton, S.C., where Wofford cruised to a 9-2 victory. In that game, Presbyterian reliever Robbie Boykin was a bright spot, striking out five over 3 1/3 innings while allowing one earned run.

Boykin, a right-hander, will be a player to watch for the Blue Hose. He has been effective lately, not allowing a hit in five of his last six appearances, spanning 7 1/3 innings. In Sunday’s win over Winthrop, he recorded five outs without allowing a hit.

Wofford will counter with a key bullpen arm in Miller Alston. The right-hander pitched two scoreless innings of relief in Sunday’s series-clinching win over The Citadel, allowing just one hit. Over his last four outings, he has surrendered only two hits in 5 2/3 innings.

Presbyterian’s offense, which erupted for 12 runs Sunday behind Andrew Albertus and Caden Mason, will face a stiff challenge against a Wofford pitching staff that has been consistent. The Terriers’ lineup is powered by Logan Tribble, who went 3 for 4 with an RBI in the most recent game.

According to Interstat’s game simulator, the projected final score is Wofford 7, Presbyterian 3.

Following Tuesday’s contest, Wofford will prepare for a weekend series at UNC Asheville. Presbyterian continues its road swing with a series at Longwood beginning Friday.
