Alcorn State at Arkansas-Pine Bluff

Braves, Golden Lions Set for SWAC Series Finale in Pine Bluff

PINE BLUFF, Ark. (Interstat) — The Arkansas-Pine Bluff Golden Lions will look to complete a series sweep when they host the Alcorn State Braves in a Southwestern Athletic Conference baseball game Sunday evening at Torii Hunter Baseball/Softball Complex.

First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m. under cloudy skies with temperatures near 59 degrees.

The Golden Lions (11-17, 2-0 SWAC) have dominated the first two games of the series, including an 18-2 rout on Saturday. UAPB has won three of its last five games.

Alcorn State (3-21, 0-2) seeks to avoid the sweep and snap a four-game losing streak. The Braves’ last win was a 6-2 victory at Southern Mississippi on March 28, a game played concurrently with their series opener against UAPB.

A key matchup will feature Arkansas-Pine Bluff right-hander Kenney Fabian, who is coming off a stellar performance. In Saturday’s win, Fabian tossed six innings, allowing one hit and one earned run while striking out six. Over his last three starts, he has a 2.00 ERA with 14 strikeouts in 17 innings.

For the Braves, reliever Garrett Oswald has been a bright spot in the bullpen. In his last five appearances, spanning 3.1 innings, he has not allowed a hit. He recorded a scoreless one-third of an inning in Saturday’s loss.

According to Interstat’s game simulator, the projected final score is Arkansas-Pine Bluff 5, Alcorn State 1.

Following Sunday’s contest, UAPB will host Central Arkansas on Tuesday. Alcorn State’s next action is a three-game SWAC series against Mississippi Valley State starting Thursday in Lorman, Mississippi.
