Duke at Campbell

Rain Expected as Duke Visits Campbell in Midweek Clash

LILLINGTON, N.C. (Interstat) — The Duke Blue Devils and Campbell Fightin’ Camels are set for a nonconference matchup Tuesday at Jim Perry Stadium, with wet conditions forecast for first pitch.

The game is scheduled for 6 p.m. EDT on March 17, with a 100% chance of rain and a temperature near 62 degrees.

Duke (15-7) enters having split a four-game series with Miami, including a 20-10 offensive outburst Sunday. Campbell (9-9) looks to rebound after dropping the finale of its series at North Carolina A&T 7-4 on Sunday.

A key matchup features Duke’s hot-hitting Matthew Strand against Campbell’s bullpen. Strand, a catcher, is coming off a massive performance Sunday, going 2 for 3 with two home runs and six RBIs in the win over Miami. Over his last 10 games, he has four homers and 12 RBIs.

For Campbell, pitcher Camden Wimbish will be a player to watch. The reliever has been effective in recent outings, most notably throwing 3 2/3 hitless, scoreless innings with four strikeouts Sunday at N.C. A&T. Over his last three appearances, he has allowed just two earned runs in 13 2/3 innings with 15 strikeouts.

Duke’s offense has been potent, scoring 10 or more runs in five of its 15 wins. Campbell’s pitching staff will be tested after allowing 13 runs in a midweek loss to Charlotte last Tuesday.

According to Interstat’s game simulator, this contest projects to be close, with a predicted final score of Campbell 6, Duke 5.

This is the first of a busy midweek stretch for both teams. Duke travels to face Virginia Tech in an Atlantic Coast Conference series starting Friday. Campbell hosts Coastal Carolina on Wednesday before heading to Towson for a weekend series.
