South Florida at UCF
ORLANDO, Fla. (Interstat) — A surging South Florida squad aims to continue its strong start when it visits UCF for a nonconference baseball matchup Sunday evening at Jay Bergman Field.
The Bulls (7-2) bring a winning record into the contest, though they are looking to rebound from a 4-3 road loss at Bethune-Cookman on Tuesday. USF’s bullpen was a bright spot in that defeat, with Brisen Tweedy, Dominic Pontbriant and Ethan Sutton combining for six scoreless innings of relief. Tweedy, a player to watch, tossed two perfect frames with two strikeouts.
The Knights (4-3) are looking to bounce back from a lopsided 11-0 home loss to LSU last Sunday. Relief pitcher Kevin Schoneboom has been a consistent performer out of the bullpen for UCF, allowing just one hit and no earned runs over four combined innings in his last two appearances against Notre Dame and LSU, striking out four.
Despite USF’s better record, statistical projections are split. Interstat’s game simulator predicts an 8-5 victory for the Bulls, while its ELO rating system gives UCF a 64.1% probability to win.
The game is scheduled for a 6 p.m. first pitch under cloudy skies with temperatures around 59 degrees.
South Florida’s early season has featured potent offense, including a 29-run outburst against Georgia Southern on Feb. 21. UCF opened its season with a dominant sweep of Siena but has faced stiffer competition lately.
Following this game, USF returns home to host Stetson on Tuesday. UCF remains at home to face Florida Gulf Coast on Wednesday.
