Arkansas State at Arkansas
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. (Interstat) — A pair of hot in-state teams will meet under the lights Tuesday when the Arkansas Razorbacks host the Arkansas State Red Wolves in a midweek nonconference baseball clash at Baum Stadium.
First pitch is set for Tuesday evening with clear skies and temperatures near 41 degrees forecast.
The No. 6-ranked Razorbacks (6-1) enter riding high after a dominant series sweep of Xavier, capped by an 11-0 win Sunday. Left-hander Colin Fisher was spectacular in that victory, tossing eight shutout innings with just one hit allowed and 11 strikeouts. The sophomore will be a key player to watch against the Red Wolves.
Arkansas State (5-2) arrives with momentum of its own, having taken three of four from Eastern Illinois over the weekend. The Red Wolves won the series finale 9-2 on Sunday, powered by a big day from infielder Lane Walton. The junior went 2 for 4 with a home run and four RBIs in that contest, adding to his team-high totals. Walton has driven in six runs over his last two games.
The Razorbacks’ offense, which outscored Xavier 23-8 in the series, features multiple threats. Outfielder Kuhio Aloy and catcher Ryder Helfrick each drove in three runs in Sunday’s rout.
Arkansas holds a significant historical edge in the series, but the Red Wolves have shown early-season potency, averaging over seven runs per game. Their only losses are a 3-2 decision to Eastern Illinois and a 7-6 road defeat at then-Mississippi.
Interstat’s game simulator projects a tight, high-scoring affair, predicting a 7-6 Arkansas victory.
This game is the first of a home-and-home set between the programs, with the Red Wolves hosting the Razorbacks in Jonesboro on Wednesday.
Following this two-game series, Arkansas will welcome Texas-Arlington for a three-game weekend set, while Arkansas State will host Arkansas-Pine Bluff for a three-game series starting Friday.
