BRANDYS NAD LABEM, Czech Republic (Interstat) — Reka Dombai scored 30 points and grabbed eight rebounds to lead Atomeromu to an 81-69 Eurocup Women victory over Brandys nad Labem on Thursday afternoon in the season opener for both teams.

Atomeromu’s defense was the decisive factor, forcing 17 turnovers and holding the home team to an offensive rating of 88.3. Brandys nad Labem struggled from beyond the arc, making just 4 of 15 three-point attempts.

Dombai, a 5-foot-10 shooting guard, was efficient in 33 minutes of play. She was supported by Rebeka Holcz, who added 18 points, and Carolina Rodrigues, who chipped in 15 points and three assists. Liza Karlen controlled the glass, pulling down 10 rebounds to go with her nine points.

Despite the loss, Alena Hanusova posted a strong double-double for Brandys nad Labem, finishing with 21 points and 10 rebounds. Kennedy Gavin added 10 points for the home side.

The game was closer than projected by Interstat’s game simulator, which had forecast a lopsided result in favor of Atomeromu. The visitors’ perfect 17-for-17 performance from the free-throw line helped secure the win.

Atomeromu begins its season 1-0, while Brandys nad Labem starts 0-1. The two teams are scheduled to meet again in Brandys nad Labem on Thursday, Sept. 25.
