Preview: Trieste Faces Cagliari in Pivotal Italy A1 Women’s Basketball Matchup

CAGLIARI, Italy (Interstat) — Two teams jockeying for position in the Italy A1 women’s basketball league will meet Saturday when Cagliari hosts Trieste.

The matchup features clubs with nearly identical records. Cagliari (7-10) holds a slight edge over Trieste (6-11) in the standings, adding significance to the contest at Cagliari Arena.

Trieste enters with momentum from a 74-54 home victory over Treviso on Feb. 7. Forward Costanza Miccoli powered that win with 25 points and 12 rebounds. She has been dominant recently, averaging 18 points and 10.8 rebounds over her last four games, recording three double-doubles in that span.

Cagliari looks to rebound from a 66-54 road loss to Vicenza on Feb. 8. The team will rely on center Meriem Nasraoui, who posted a double-double in that defeat with 15 points and 10 rebounds. Nasraoui is capable of explosive performances, evidenced by a 34-point, 7-rebound effort in a win over Ragusa on Feb. 1.

The season’s previous head-to-head meeting resulted in a decisive 79-57 victory for Trieste at home on Dec. 11, 2025. Trieste’s recent form has been inconsistent, however, alternating wins and losses over its past five games. Cagliari has struggled offensively at times, including a 39-point outing in a loss to Matelica on Jan. 24.

Both teams feature strong individual talents in the frontcourt, setting the stage for a key battle between Miccoli and Nasraoui. The outcome could hinge on which star forward can control the paint and which supporting cast provides more consistent scoring.

Following this game, Trieste will host Vicenza on Feb. 21. Cagliari travels to face Ancona the same day.
