Reyer Venezia vs. Schio

SCHIO, Italy (Interstat) — Reyer Venezia will look to snap a pattern of alternating results against rival Schio when the two teams meet Sunday in an Italy A1 women’s basketball clash at Palasport Livio Romare.

Schio (33-8) holds the better overall record but dropped the most recent meeting between the sides April 20, a 71-60 road loss to Venezia. That victory came after Schio had beaten Venezia 74-53 at home on April 23 — part of a season-long series that has seen seven head-to-head contests, with Schio taking four.

Venezia (32-12) enters the game coming off that 53-74 defeat Thursday. In that loss, center Stephanie Mavunga logged 19 minutes and finished with 10 points, six rebounds, one assist and one block. The veteran post has been a consistent contributor in the series, also posting eight points and seven rebounds in Venezia’s April 20 road win. Across her last five games, Mavunga is averaging 6.6 points and 7.0 rebounds in roughly 17 minutes per contest.

Schio’s Cecilia Zandalasini has been the primary offensive force in the rivalry. The forward scored 15 points with six rebounds, three assists and two blocks in the April 23 victory. She also posted 10 points and four assists in the April 20 loss, playing a team-high 34 minutes. Over her last five outings, Zandalasini is averaging 10.8 points and 3.2 rebounds.

Both teams enter with momentum. Schio has won four of its last five, while Venezia has won three of its last five despite the Thursday setback. The winner Sunday will tighten the race for playoff positioning as the regular season winds down.

Tipoff is set for 6 p.m. local time.
