Agronomia Looks to Sweep Season Series Against Struggling CSUP Timisoara

TIMISOARA, Romania (Interstat) — Two teams at the bottom of the Romanian women’s professional basketball standings will meet Tuesday when CSUP Timisoara hosts Agronomia.

The game, scheduled for April 21, 2026, in Timisoara, is a quick rematch of a contest played just four days prior. On Friday, Agronomia (6-15) secured a decisive 78-54 home victory over CSUP Timisoara (2-19).

That result continued a dominant trend in the recent head-to-head series. Agronomia has won the last three meetings, including a 66-42 win in Timisoara on Jan. 17 and a 72-60 victory last November. The visiting side will aim for a season sweep on Tuesday.

Agronomia enters with marginally better form, having snapped a five-game losing streak with Friday’s win. Their performance was fueled by forward Maria Alexe, who posted a double-double with 17 points and 12 rebounds in 26 minutes. Alexe has been a consistent bright spot, scoring 17 points in two of her last three complete games. She will be a primary focus for the home defense.

CSUP Timisoara’s struggles are more profound, having lost 12 consecutive games. Their last win was a 103-35 rout of Olimpia on Jan. 22. In Friday’s loss, guard Diana Spinean led the team with 15 points and 4 assists in 30 minutes. She will need another strong offensive outing to spark an upset.

Beyond the head-to-head advantage, Agronomia’s season has featured occasional competitive performances, including a win over CSM Sportul in January. CSUP Timisoara, conversely, has been plagued by blowouts, suffering losses of 99-37, 124-24, and 123-35 in recent months.

The matchup pits Agronomia’s search for consistency against a CSUP Timisoara squad desperate to halt a lengthy skid and find a rare bright spot in a difficult season. While both teams are eliminated from title contention, pride and momentum for the offseason will be on the line.
