Townsville vs. Southside

Preview: Townsville Faces Southside in NBL1 Women’s Clash

DANDENONG, Australia (Interstat) — The surging Townsville women’s professional basketball team looks to continue its dominant season when it visits the struggling Southside Flyers in an NBL1 matchup on Wednesday, Feb. 18, 2026.

Townsville (20-4) enters riding a six-game winning streak and leads the league standings. Southside (11-13) seeks consistency and a statement win to improve its playoff positioning. The game will be played at Dandenong Stadium.

The visitors have controlled the recent series, winning the last four meetings. This includes a decisive 88-60 victory just three days prior on Feb. 15. In that game, Townsville guard Abbey Ellis scored 20 points in 30 minutes, continuing her strong play against Southside. She also poured in 25 points in a narrow 78-75 win over the Flyers on Jan. 24.

Ellis, averaging 15.2 points over her last five games, is a key offensive catalyst for Townsville. She will be supported by forwards Alicia Froling and Alexandra Fowler, who combined for 33 points and 14 rebounds in Sunday’s win.

Southside will counter with center Cayla George, whose all-around production has been a bright spot during a challenging stretch. George is averaging a double-double over her last seven games, including 12 points and 10 rebounds in the recent loss to Townsville. Her defensive presence, evidenced by 15 blocks in that same span, will be crucial against Townsville’s efficient attack.

While Townsville has won 10 of its last 11, Southside’s form has been uneven, with three losses in its last five outings. The Flyers’ last win came on Feb. 8 against Adelaide, where George anchored the defense with 16 rebounds and five blocks.

The matchup hinges on whether Southside can disrupt Townsville’s offensive rhythm and translate George’s interior dominance into a cohesive team victory, or if the league leaders will continue their assertive march through the schedule.
