Los Angeles Mission vs Moorpark
MOORPARK, Calif. (Interstat) — The Moorpark College women’s basketball team used a dominant third-quarter surge to pull away from Los Angeles Mission College and secure a 58-40 victory in a California Community College Athletic Association game Friday night.
The Raiders, improving to 24-3 overall, broke open a competitive contest by outscoring the Eagles 21-11 in the pivotal third period. That run transformed a 31-19 halftime lead into a commanding 52-30 advantage entering the final quarter, effectively deciding the outcome.
The most important sequence of the game occurred early in that third quarter. After the Eagles cut the deficit to 34-26 on a Victoria Eufracio layup, Moorpark unleashed a decisive 8-0 run in just over a minute. It began with a Maleyni Tolliver layup, followed immediately by a Hannah Lising steal and layup. After another Los Angeles Mission turnover, Lising struck again with another layup, forcing an Eagles timeout with 6:11 remaining in the quarter and the Raiders leading 40-26. The Raiders’ defensive pressure and efficient transition offense during this burst proved insurmountable for the Eagles.
Moorpark’s balance and efficiency were key. The Raiders shot 44 percent from the field while holding Los Angeles Mission to just 27 percent. The Eagles struggled profoundly from beyond the arc, making only 2 of 19 three-point attempts.
Tolliver led Moorpark with 13 points and nine rebounds. Hannah Lising added 12 points, seven rebounds and three assists, while Alyssa Saldana and Keilani Peralta each contributed 11 points. Peralta also hit three of Moorpark’s four three-pointers in the game.
For Los Angeles Mission, which fell to 13-14, Heart Lising led all scorers with 15 points. Nayeli Rodriguez provided a spark off the bench with 10 points, and Ashley Martin grabbed a team-high seven rebounds. The Eagles were hampered by a season-low three assists as a team, underscoring their offensive difficulties against a stout Raiders defense.
Moorpark controlled the glass, outrebounding Los Angeles Mission 46-37, which helped offset committing 11 turnovers to the Eagles’ 10.
The win completed a regular-season sweep for Moorpark, which also defeated Los Angeles Mission 54-48 on Jan. 28. The Raiders have now won 12 of their last 13 games, with the only loss in that span coming against a state-ranked opponent. Los Angeles Mission saw a two-game winning streak snapped.
Both teams conclude regular season play next week before the postseason begins.
