Mount San Jacinto vs San Bernardino Valley
SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. (Interstat) — A surging Mount San Jacinto women’s basketball team will look to extend its dominance over a struggling San Bernardino Valley squad when the Eagles visit the Wolverines in a California community college matchup Wednesday.
The Eagles (20-6) enter on a seven-game winning streak, including a 106-42 rout of Barstow on Saturday. Their last loss came on Dec. 30. The Wolverines (4-20) have lost four straight and 12 of their last 13 games.
Mount San Jacinto’s high-powered offense, which has averaged 89 points during its win streak, is led by standout Karsen Marshall. The guard has been exceptional in recent weeks, posting a 27-point, 11-rebound performance against Desert on Feb. 4 and a 33-point outing against Copper Mountain on Jan. 28. She also recorded a 19-point, 16-rebound double-double at Chaffey on Jan. 24.
San Bernardino Valley will counter with forward Hailey Ruiz, who is coming off a 14-rebound effort in a 75-61 loss at Desert on Feb. 7. Majesty Cade (20 points, 15 rebounds) and Maryanne Palacios (12 points, 11 rebounds) were also key contributors in that game for the Wolverines.
The previous meeting this season was a lopsided affair, with Mount San Jacinto crushing San Bernardino Valley 106-49 at home on Jan. 10. The Eagles’ current run includes several blowout victories, winning by an average margin of 38 points over their last three games.
Despite the stark contrast in records and recent form, Interstat’s game simulator projects a highly unusual 100-100 tie for this contest. Mount San Jacinto’s defense, which has held opponents to 50 points or fewer in three of the last four games, will be tested against a Wolverines team seeking a major upset at home.
Following this game, Mount San Jacinto will travel to face Palo Verde on Feb. 18. San Bernardino Valley is scheduled to play at Barstow on Feb. 14.
Tip-off is set for Wednesday night at San Bernardino Valley College.
