Georgetown Hoyas at Delaware State Hornets

LEIPSIC, Del. (Interstat) — Georgetown and Delaware State will open their women’s NCAA Division I basketball seasons Monday at Memorial Hall in Leipsic, Del., with the Hoyas serving as the visiting team and the Hornets as the home team. Both programs enter the game at 0-0 and will be seeking a positive start to the new campaign. The Hoyas and Hornets will meet in a nonconference matchup that gives each side an early opportunity to establish tempo and rotation.

Georgetown’s most recent result was a 39-84 loss at Connecticut on March 7. The Hoyas will look to establish a more competitive rhythm on both ends of the floor after that outing. The trip to Delaware offers an early chance to build momentum before Georgetown returns home for a stretch of games that includes matchups against American and Saint Peter’s.

Delaware State’s most recent result was a 48-55 loss at Maryland-Eastern Shore on March 11. The Hornets will play their opener at home, where they will try to use familiarity and crowd support to offset Georgetown’s defensive pressure. Delaware State’s early schedule includes a home game against Georgian Court and a road test at Robert Morris, making the opener an important tone-setter.

Both programs are in the early stages of constructing their identities for the season. Georgetown will aim to improve its shooting efficiency and limit turnovers after a difficult final result in its last outing. Delaware State will focus on controlling the pace and converting opportunities in the paint. The matchup also gives each team a chance to measure progress before a busy stretch of nonconference play. Neither team has played a regular-season game yet, so the opener will provide an early look at rotations and defensive matchups.

Georgetown’s upcoming slate features games against American, Saint Peter’s, George Washington, Howard, North Carolina State, Temple, Clemson, Rutgers and Morgan State. Delaware State’s next stretch includes Georgian Court, Robert Morris, Pittsburgh, American, NJIT, Rutgers, Bucknell, Washington Adventist and Fairleigh Dickinson. The Hornets will seek to protect home court before heading out for a series of road assignments.

Memorial Hall will host the women’s game, with Georgetown serving as the visiting team and Delaware State as the home team. The Hoyas and Hornets will both be looking to start the season with a victory and gain confidence ahead of their respective nonconference schedules. The opener also provides an early road test for Georgetown and a chance for Delaware State to defend its home floor.

Interstat’s game simulator projects Georgetown to defeat Delaware State 56-53.
