Harvard vs. Princeton

ITHACA, N.Y. (Interstat) — A surging Harvard women’s basketball team will look to spring a monumental upset and avenge a recent defeat when it faces powerhouse Princeton in a regular-season finale Saturday at Ben Light Gymnasium.

The Crimson (18-10) enter on a three-game winning streak, including a gritty 67-65 overtime victory at Columbia on Friday night. Princeton (25-3), ranked among the nation’s elite, aims to solidify its postseason seeding after dispatching Brown 65-51 in its last outing.

This matchup is a swift rematch of Princeton’s 62-49 home win over Harvard on Feb. 28. The Tigers also edged Harvard 82-79 in overtime in their first meeting this season on Jan. 19, indicating a tightly contested series.

Harvard’s hopes will lean heavily on guard Karlee White, who is coming off a 16-point performance against Columbia and has been a consistent offensive force. She scored 24 points in a win over Columbia on March 7 and another 24 against Cornell on Feb. 21. In the Feb. 28 loss to Princeton, White was held to 10 points.

Princeton counters with standout guard Madison St. Rose, who tallied 18 points, three assists and a block against Brown. She is capable of explosive performances, as evidenced by a 30-point outing against Brown on Feb. 21. St. Rose was limited to six points in the last meeting with Harvard but the Tigers’ balanced attack prevailed.

The Tigers have been dominant for most of the season, with their three losses coming by a combined 15 points. Their defense has been stifling, holding opponents under 50 points in four of their last five games. Harvard’s recent success has been built on resilience, with its last two wins coming by a combined six points.

According to Interstat’s ELO system, Princeton is projected with a 74.90 percent probability to win. However, Harvard’s recent form and history of playing the Tigers close suggest an intriguing clash to close the regular season.

Tip-off is scheduled for Saturday afternoon.
