Maryland at Nebraska

Preview: Maryland at Nebraska in Key Big Ten Women’s Basketball Clash

LINCOLN, Neb. (Interstat) — Two teams jockeying for position in the crowded Big Ten Conference standings will meet Saturday when the Maryland Terrapins visit the Nebraska Cornhuskers at Pinnacle Bank Arena.

The Terrapins (18-6, 8-5 Big Ten), coming off an 86-70 road win at Michigan State on Wednesday, aim to build momentum after a stretch that saw them drop four of five games prior. The Cornhuskers (16-6, 7-5), meanwhile, look to halt a two-game skid following losses at Michigan and Ohio State.

The matchup features two of the league’s most dynamic guards in Maryland’s Oluchi Okananwa and Nebraska’s Britt Prince. Okananwa is averaging 20.1 points over her last seven games, including a 23-point performance against Michigan State. Prince, the Cornhuskers’ floor general, is coming off a 28-point, 6-assist effort in a win over Northwestern last week.

Maryland’s victory over Michigan State provided a needed reset. Alongside Okananwa, Saylor Poffenbarger and Yarden Garzon each logged 39 minutes and combined for 29 points. The Terrapins will need similar balance to navigate a tough road environment.

Nebraska has been strong at home, winning its last three conference games in Lincoln by an average of 12 points. Beyond Prince, contributions from players like Amiah Hargrove, who scored 16 against Michigan, will be crucial against Maryland’s athletic lineup.

This game carries significant weight for postseason seeding. Maryland sits a half-game ahead of Nebraska in the conference standings, making this a pivotal opportunity for the Cornhuskers to draw even. Both teams have faced recent struggles against the league’s top tier, adding urgency to secure a quality win.

Following this game, Maryland hosts Penn State on Feb. 12, while Nebraska travels to Minnesota on the same date.

Tip-off is scheduled for 2 p.m. EST Saturday.
