Preview: North Texas Women Set for Road Test at UTSA

DENTON, Texas (Interstat) — The North Texas Mean Green look to rebound from a narrow home loss when they visit the Texas-San Antonio Roadrunners in a key American Athletic Conference women’s basketball matchup Wednesday night.

North Texas (11-8, 5-3 AAC) enters the contest after a 57-53 defeat to Tulsa last Friday, which snapped a four-game winning streak. The Mean Green’s recent success has been fueled by forward Megan Nestor, who is coming off a historic performance. In the loss to Tulsa, Nestor recorded a staggering 27 rebounds to go with 19 points. Over her last six games, she is averaging 14.0 points and 10.8 rebounds, including three double-doubles.

UTSA (9-9, 3-5) has dropped three of its last four, including a 52-40 road loss at Memphis on Friday. The Roadrunners are led by guard Ereauna Hardaway, who paces the team in scoring (12.4 ppg) and assists (5.2 apg). Hardaway filled the stat sheet against Memphis with 15 points, five rebounds and seven assists. Her playmaking will be central to UTSA’s hopes of protecting its home court.

The Mean Green have found a rhythm offensively during conference play, averaging 68.2 points in their eight AAC contests. Beyond Nestor, Chania Price (13 points vs. Tulsa) provides a secondary scoring option. UTSA has struggled to score at times, being held under 60 points in four of its eight conference games, but boasts a dominant 79-42 win over Florida Atlantic on Jan. 16.

This game is the first of two regular-season meetings between the programs this season. They will meet again in Denton on Feb. 24. For North Texas, it begins a stretch of three road games in four contests. UTSA looks to steady itself before a challenging two-game road trip to UAB and Tulsa next week.

Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. CST at the Convocation Center in San Antonio.
