AKRON, Ohio (Interstat) — The Louisiana-Lafayette women’s basketball team secured a rare road victory Saturday, defeating Akron 82-71 at James A. Rhodes Arena.

The Ragin’ Cajuns built a commanding lead with a 27-point first quarter and never trailed. Akron’s Zips cut the deficit to nine points in the fourth quarter but drew no closer. Louisiana-Lafayette capitalized on 25 Akron turnovers, converting them into 27 points. The Ragin’ Cajuns shot 50% from the floor while holding Akron to 40.4% shooting. The win improved Louisiana-Lafayette’s record to 3-21, while Akron fell to 5-18. Attendance was 747.
