Siena Looks to Extend Win Streak Against Iona in MAAC Women’s Basketball Clash
NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. (Interstat) — The Siena Saints will aim to continue their recent surge when they visit the Iona Gaels in a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference women’s basketball game Saturday at Hynes Center.
Siena (5-7) enters on a four-game winning streak, its longest of the season, following a 69-59 home victory over Mount Saint Mary’s on Thursday. The Saints’ offense has found its rhythm during the stretch, averaging 85.8 points per game.
A key contributor has been guard Kaiya Rain Tucker. Over the last four contests, she has provided efficient scoring and defense, including an 11-point, two-block effort in 26 minutes against Mount Saint Mary’s.
Iona (8-5) looks to rebound from a tough 80-54 road loss at Quinnipiac on Thursday. Before that defeat, the Gaels had won three of their previous four games. Forward Zoey Ward has been a consistent force, leading the team with 15 points and six rebounds in the loss to Quinnipiac. She is averaging 14.5 points over her last six games.
The Gaels hold the overall season edge in wins and will rely on home-court advantage, where they are 5-2 this season. Siena is 2-4 in road games.
Historically, the series has been competitive, adding intrigue to this early conference matchup. Siena’s recent offensive explosion will be tested by an Iona squad seeking to tighten its defense after allowing 80 points in its last outing.
Saturday’s contest tips off at 2 p.m. EST. Following this game, Siena will host Rider on Jan. 8, while Iona travels to face Niagara on the same date.
