Florida State vs. Oklahoma
FORT MYERS, Fla. (Interstat) — The Oklahoma Sooners, off to a strong 6-1 start, will face a Florida State Seminoles team seeking consistency in a non-conference women’s basketball matchup Sunday.
The game, part of the Coconut Hoops event, pits an Oklahoma squad averaging 88.4 points per game against a Florida State team that has alternated between explosive offensive nights and lopsided losses. The Sooners are coming off a dominant 100-46 victory over Coppin State on Friday, where Sahara Williams scored 21 points and Raegan Beers added 14 points and five assists.
The Seminoles (4-4) evened their record with an 85-75 home win over Missouri State on Friday. Solè Williams led the way with 21 points, while Sydney Bowles contributed 14. However, Florida State has struggled against ranked competition, suffering double-digit losses to Connecticut, Florida and Illinois.
Oklahoma’s lone blemish was a 73-59 defeat at UCLA on Nov. 10. Since then, they have won four straight, all by at least 28 points. The Sooners’ offense has been a model of efficiency, while their defense has held opponents to an average of 48.5 points during the winning streak.
Florida State will need another high-scoring performance from its backcourt to challenge an Oklahoma team that has found its rhythm. The Seminoles are 0-3 in true road games this season.
Tipoff is set for Sunday at the venue in Fort Myers. Oklahoma hosts North Carolina State next on Wednesday, while Florida State travels to face Georgia.
