Maryland-Eastern Shore at Virginia

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (Interstat) — The Virginia women’s basketball team looks to rebound from its first home loss when it hosts Maryland-Eastern Shore on Sunday at John Paul Jones Arena.

The Cavaliers (5-2) saw a five-game winning streak snapped in a 91-82 defeat to Nebraska on Tuesday. Kymora Johnson led Virginia with 24 points and six assists, while Paris Clark added 15 points and five assists.

Virginia, which averages 76.1 points per game, has otherwise been dominant at home, winning its other four contests by an average of 38 points.

The Cavaliers’ defense will be tested by a Hawks squad (5-4) coming off a 67-59 road win at Mount Saint Mary’s on Wednesday. Ashanti Lynch poured in 27 points in that victory, and Lainey Allen recorded a double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds.

Maryland-Eastern Shore has struggled on the road this season, with a 1-3 record in away games. Their lone victory came against Loyola Chicago on Nov. 16.

This non-conference matchup is the first of a two-game road trip for the Hawks, who travel to Wichita State on Dec. 5. Virginia opens Atlantic Coast Conference play at Vanderbilt on Dec. 3.
