Quinnipiac at Niagara
Preview of Saturday’s Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Women’s Basketball Game
SANBORN, N.Y. (Interstat) — A matchup of teams at opposite ends of the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference standings unfolds Saturday when the first-place Quinnipiac Bobcats visit the winless Niagara Purple Eagles.
The game tips off at 2 p.m. EST at the Gallagher Center.
Quinnipiac (19-4, 11-1 MAAC) enters on a nine-game winning streak following a 73-55 road victory at Canisius on Thursday. The Bobcats have dominated conference play with a potent offense and stifling defense, winning their last five games by an average of 16.2 points.
Niagara (0-22, 0-12) seeks its first victory in a season marked by struggle. The Purple Eagles fell 74-58 at Canisius on Tuesday, extending a losing streak that spans the entire season. They rank last in the MAAC in both scoring offense and scoring margin.
A key player to watch for Quinnipiac is Anna Foley. The guard is coming off a 16-point, 3-assist performance in 24 minutes against Canisius and has been a consistent contributor. She posted a double-double (13 points, 10 rebounds) against Sacred Heart on Jan. 10 and scored 21 points at Manhattan on Jan. 24.
Niagara will look to guard Katarina Veljovic to provide a spark. She logged 34 minutes and led the team with 13 points and 5 assists in the loss to Canisius. Her season high of 12 points came against Fairfield on Jan. 22.
In their most recent outing, Quinnipiac saw balanced scoring behind Foley, with Jackie Grisdale adding 12 points and Karson Martin contributing 14 points and 5 assists. For Niagara in its last game, Talia Dial scored 15 points and Jordyn Williams added 11.
The teams are scheduled to meet again in Hamden, Connecticut, on Feb. 26.
