LOWELL, Mass. (Interstat) — Maddie Rice scored 18 points to lead Massachusetts-Lowell to a 58-45 women’s basketball victory over Albany on Saturday at Costello Athletic Center.

The River Hawks never trailed, building a 28-22 halftime lead and maintaining a double-digit advantage for most of the second half. Rice added six rebounds and five assists for Massachusetts-Lowell, which improved to 7-17. Nia Chima added nine points and nine rebounds.

Amaya Stewart led all scorers with 23 points for Albany. The Great Danes, who entered as heavy favorites, shot poorly and fell to 12-12. Albany’s Julia Palomo grabbed nine rebounds.

Massachusetts-Lowell scored 15 points off turnovers and held Albany to just six first-quarter points. The River Hawks avenged a 74-62 loss to the Great Danes on Jan. 3. Attendance was 225.
