HOUSTON (Interstat) — Texas-San Antonio built a commanding first-half lead and held off a late Rice rally to earn a 61-52 upset victory in an American Athletic Conference women’s basketball game Saturday at Tudor Fieldhouse.

The Roadrunners led 41-21 at halftime after outscoring the Owls 22-6 in the second quarter. Rice closed the gap with a 19-point fourth quarter but could not complete the comeback. Mia Hammonds led Texas-San Antonio with 14 points. Aniah Alexis scored 15 for Rice, which entered the game 26-4. The Roadrunners improved to 14-15. Attendance was 1,346.
