Mercer at Jackson State

JACKSON, Miss. (Interstat) — The Mercer Bears and Jackson State Lady Tigers, both seeking to get back to .500, will face off in a nonconference women’s basketball game Wednesday at the Lee Williams Athletic Center.

Mercer (2-2) arrives after a narrow 66-61 road loss to Wake Forest on Nov. 13. In that game, Nahawa Diarra led the Bears with 21 points and six rebounds, while Stephanie Utomi pulled down 11 rebounds. The Bears have shown a strong defensive capability this season, holding UNC Asheville to 39 points in a season-opening win.

Jackson State (1-2) is looking to rebound from a tough 82-55 loss at Mississippi State on Nov. 13. Derrica McCall was the top scorer for the Lady Tigers in that contest with 12 points. Jackson State’s season has been a tale of two extremes, following a dominant 117-40 victory over MUW with a pair of double-digit losses.

The game presents an opportunity for both teams to build momentum before heading into their next contests. Mercer will travel to face in-state foe Georgia Southern on Saturday, while Jackson State will host Arkansas State on Sunday.
