Houston at Texas Christian
FORT WORTH, Texas (Interstat) — A surging Texas Christian squad looks to rebound from a rare stumble when it hosts struggling Houston in a Big 12 women’s basketball matchup Wednesday night at Dickies Arena.
The No. 8-ranked Lady Frogs (20-3, 9-2 Big 12) saw a five-game win streak snapped in a narrow 62-60 road loss at Texas Tech on Sunday. Despite the defeat, TCU remains among the conference’s elite, boasting a potent blend of defense and balanced scoring. Forward Marta Suárez, a key transfer, is coming off a 15-point, 12-rebound double-double in the loss and has been a consistent force all season.
They face a Houston team (7-14, 2-9) that is coming off just its second win in the last 11 games, a 72-70 victory over Cincinnati on Sunday. The Cougars have struggled mightily in conference play, with their only other Big 12 win coming against Cincinnati in January. Guard Kyndall Hunter has been a bright spot, averaging 19.3 points over her last three games, including a 23-point performance in the recent win.
The matchup pits one of the league’s top defenses in TCU, which allows just 60.1 points per game, against a Houston offense that has averaged only 62.4 points during its conference slide. The Lady Frogs won the first meeting this season in Houston, 81-59, on Jan. 4.
TCU’s depth will be tested, as they typically feature multiple scoring threats alongside Suárez, including guard Olivia Miles. Houston will rely heavily on Hunter and forward Kierra Merchant to generate offense against a stifling TCU defense that forces over 16 turnovers per game.
Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. CST. The game is part of a doubleheader at Dickies Arena, with the men’s teams from both schools following.
