Preview of Top Metro Atlantic Showdown: Quinnipiac at Fairfield

BRIDGEPORT, Conn. (Interstat) — A pivotal Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference women’s basketball clash is set for Thursday when the Fairfield Stags host the Quinnipiac Bobcats at Webster Bank Arena.

The matchup features the conference’s top two teams by record. Fairfield (17-3 overall) enters on a 10-game winning streak, last losing on Dec. 7. Quinnipiac (16-4) has won nine consecutive games, with its last defeat coming on Dec. 14.

The game will showcase two of the league’s standout performers. Fairfield is led by guard Kaety L’Amoreaux, who is averaging 22.3 points over her last six games. She scored 25 points in a win at Canisius last Saturday and recorded a triple-double (11 points, 10 rebounds, 10 assists) against Niagara on Jan. 3.

Quinnipiac counters with forward Anna Foley, who is coming off a 21-point, 8-rebound performance in a 74-56 victory at Manhattan. Foley has posted two double-doubles this month and provides a versatile inside-out threat for the Bobcats.

Both teams have dominated MAAC play with stifling defense. During its winning streak, Fairfield has held opponents to an average of 49.2 points per game. Quinnipiac has been equally formidable, allowing just 52.2 points per game over its nine-game run.

In their most recent outings, Fairfield defeated Canisius 58-42 behind L’Amoreaux’s 25 points, while Quinnipiac topped Manhattan 74-56 with Foley, Karson Martin (11 points) and Ella O’Donnell (10 points) leading a balanced attack.

This contest is the first of a regular-season home-and-home series. The teams will meet again in Hamden on Saturday, Feb. 14.

Thursday’s winner will seize sole possession of first place in the MAAC standings and gain crucial momentum for the stretch run. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. EST.
