New Hampshire at Binghamton

VESTAL, N.Y. (Interstat) — A struggling New Hampshire team visits a surging Binghamton squad in an America East women’s basketball matchup on Thursday night at the Binghamton University Events Center.

The Wildcats (6-12, 0-5 America East) enter on a five-game losing streak, most recently a 73-51 home loss to Maine on Saturday. Guard Maggie Cavanaugh led New Hampshire with 17 points in that defeat and has been a consistent presence, averaging 8.8 points per game over her last seven contests. However, offensive production has been a persistent issue; the Wildcats have failed to reach 60 points in five of their last six games.

In stark contrast, the Bearcats (12-6, 3-2) have won five of their last seven and are tied for third in the conference standings. Their momentum was slightly checked by a 64-58 loss at Maryland-Baltimore County last Saturday, but they had previously strung together four consecutive conference wins. Balance has been key for Binghamton, with guard Meghan Casey averaging 10.9 points over her last seven games, including a 23-point outburst in a win at NJIT on Jan. 3.

Binghamton won both meetings last season by an average of 18 points. The Bearcats’ defense, which allows just 60.2 points per game, will look to stifle a New Hampshire offense averaging a league-worst 52.8 points in conference play.

For New Hampshire, breaking its conference skid will require finding supplementary scoring behind Cavanaugh and improving on its 36.8% team shooting. Binghamton aims to protect its home court, where it is 7-2 this season, and solidify its position in the upper tier of the America East standings.

The game tips off at 6 p.m. EST. Following this contest, New Hampshire travels to face Albany on Saturday, while Binghamton hosts Maine.
