South Carolina Upstate at Morehead State
HALDEMAN, Ky. (Interstat) — Two teams looking to bounce back from lopsided losses will meet Saturday when the South Carolina Upstate Spartans visit the Morehead State Eagles in a nonconference women’s basketball game.
The Spartans (2-4) are coming off an 85-54 home defeat to Marshall on Friday. Vera Soderblom nearly posted a double-double with 9 rebounds and 7 points in the loss, while Aijah Palmore added 10 points and 7 rebounds. South Carolina Upstate’s two wins this season have come against Erskine and South Carolina State.
The Eagles (1-3) last played on Wednesday, falling 96-49 on the road to Louisville. Violet McNece led Morehead State with 12 points in that contest, and Marie Sepp added 10 points and 5 assists. The Eagles’ lone victory was an 84-68 win at Bellarmine on Nov. 7.
Both teams have struggled against high-major opponents, with South Carolina Upstate losing to Kentucky, Georgia and Clemson, and Morehead State falling to Kentucky and Louisville by wide margins.
Saturday’s matchup at E.T. Johnson Arena will be the first of a two-game homestand for the Eagles. The Spartans will continue a stretch of four road games in their first seven contests.
