Tennessee at South Carolina

COLUMBIA, S.C. (Interstat) — The South Carolina Gamecocks, riding a dominant stretch of Southeastern Conference play, will host the Tennessee Lady Volunteers in a high-stakes women’s basketball matchup Sunday at Colonial Life Arena.

South Carolina (23-2, 11-1 SEC) enters as the heavy favorite, having won its last four games by an average of 33.5 points since a Jan. 22 overtime road loss to Oklahoma. The Gamecocks are coming off an 88-45 demolition of Mississippi State on Thursday, where forward Joyce Edwards scored 21 points in just 24 minutes.

Edwards, a sophomore, has been a force, averaging 18.9 points per game in conference play. She posted 28 points in a win at Texas A&M on Feb. 2 and is a central figure in South Carolina’s balanced attack, which leads the nation in scoring margin.

Tennessee (15-5, 8-3) arrives with momentum after an 82-77 overtime road victory at Georgia on Thursday. The Lady Vols are led by guard Zee Spearman, who scored 23 points in that win and is averaging 17.5 points over her last four contests. Spearman’s backcourt partnership with Mia Pauldo, who had 21 points against Georgia, provides Tennessee’s offensive spark.

However, the Lady Vols have struggled against top-tier competition, including a 96-66 loss at Connecticut on Feb. 1 and a 77-62 home defeat to Mississippi State on Jan. 29. Tennessee’s defense will face its toughest test yet against a deep South Carolina roster that features four players averaging double figures.

The Gamecocks have controlled the series recently, winning the last six meetings. In their most recent matchup last season, South Carolina won 66-55 in Knoxville.

A Tennessee victory would represent a seismic upset and solidify its NCAA tournament seeding, while South Carolina aims to continue its march toward a top overall seed and defend its home court, where it has won 43 consecutive games.

Tipoff is set for 1 p.m. EST. The game will be broadcast on ESPN.
